Wilderness guide training in North Central British Columbia
Welcome to Alphadog Guide Academy
Our training is designed to be the most comprehensive and complete instruction of its type, focusing on all the practical and technical skills required to be a successful wilderness guide.
The complete program consists of 3– 6 day units. The length of time required to complete all 3 units in sequence is 20 days. The first 2 units are geared towards the wilderness guide industry, with the third unit focusing on big game guiding. There are other programs offered throughout Canada, very few are as in depth as this one, please review to help ensure this is the right one for you.
Unit 1 (6days)

Unit 2 (6days)
- Horses and pack animals
- Horsemanship and general riding
- Packing and leading
- General horse first aid
- Foot care and shoeing
- Knots and ropes
- Camping with horses
Unit 3 (6days)
- Intro to big game guiding and the industry
- Rules and regs
- Hunting methods
- Judging big game
- Shot placement and tracking wounded game
- Skinning and caping
- Dressing and butchering
- Firearms and ballistics
- Archer
- Predator safety
Upon completion of the 3 units, there will be a final exam. The first portion is theory and will run in the morning and the second practical portion will run in the afternoon.
The cost of each unit is $1200
(this cost includes everything you need to take part in the training, no hidden fees)
Your instructors
Mike and ShaYour instructorswn are the chief instructors, both come with years of guiding experience and are currently ac-tive in the industry today. Chances are, if it can be done in the back country, these two have done it! Hunters, anglers, trappers, horsemen, packers, cowboys, taxidermists, TV professionals…………we’ve done it all.
Location
The location of the academy is just outside of Vanderhoof BC. Transportation to and from Prince George for fly-in students can be prearranged. All the transportation during the program will be supplied by AGA. Some of the “in the field” activities will occur within one of our registered guide areas.

- No prior experience is required
- No firearms or pets
- During the time spent with us, trainees will be staying in wall tents. This program is co-ed and open to all ages (min 19 yrs)
- Group size 6-10 participants
- Each year we help place guides with positions within the industry.
